Wishing Upon a Star

Location

Although I may act as an adult today,
I wish to work where I may forever be a child.
And they told me that I may wish
and that a star may grant it true,
but I know it’ll take more than a dream
a little girl once had and one that she
has never let herself let go of.
I am close enough to feel my dream
at my fingertips and yet I believe
that it may simply slide right though.
There are a million and one just like me,
who wish to work for so large and great an employer,
and I know how qualified they all are,
yet I can feel what I could add to the company.
Just to work for them is all I ask.
I could work in the parks, sweeping the streets,
as the great John Lasseter once did.
I’m good with make-up, so perhaps
they could let me make every little girls’ dream
come true of being a princess, at least for the day,
or let every little boy become the pirate
of the high seas, adventure at his helm.
I could work at the rides, any ride at all,
instilling a chill in the bones of any guest
lucky enough to ride the haunted elevator
or those Doombuggies to the underworld.
I adore the movies, so let me be their guide
to the world of Cagney and Casablanca
and Reynolds and Raiders.
It’s a job I’ve dreamt of single I was child
and now I wish to make other children
dream big as I once did.
