This Will Be Our Future (Based on Brad Paisley's 'Welcome to the Future')

When I was 17 years old

I remember thinking how cool it would be

When we were all hanging with each other

If we didn’t have to be mean

And I'd give anything

To stop racism in this country

It seems like I'm not alone.

This country went through World War 2

We fought against the Japanese

We put them in several camps

Now were treated equal on the streets

I wish they could see this now

The world they saved has changed you know

'Cause we try to be peaceful with everyone

I guess the police are an exception though

Hey, everyday's a revolution

Let’s make everyone equal in the future

Hey, we are headed in a good direction

Hey, so many things I never thought I'd see

Happening right in front of me

I had a friend in school

Black girl in art class and chemistry

They said “nigger” on Instagram

And she made it evident they didn’t know it was so obscene

I thought about her today

And how she made a change in society

From a woman on a bus

To a man with a dream

To stopping racial slurs

And knowing what they mean

Hey, wake up America

This will be our future

End racism, hate, and war

This will be our future
