The Wild Nurse

To Protect
is to care for
something or someone
fragile, vulnerable

By Nature's laws
it is illogical. Nonsensical.
vain.

She Never cared
about that.

She Saw value in
him no one else saw

her fur sparkled
in the sunlight
and the moonlight
shimmering like
a half-forgotten
song
as she foraged from
day to
day
for two

He Didn't
deserve her. He knew that.

But whenever
He Suggested he leave,

She Always
said softly,
"No."

He wasn't un-
happy with her. He just
felt guilty for
Weighing
Her down

In Truth,
he meant
everything in her
Vivacious green eyes;
her whole world, even

Without a cub of her own,
She Gladly adopted
him
and loved the meek creature
So Deeply.

"So Sensitive," --
one of her first thoughts. It was
Not an Insult; a mere observation
and she valued his trait
almost over
Herself.

once nursed back to health,
after she'd saved him from doom
he was lively, happy

they were
Playful Together

Many Moons later
They Play together still

He Now
had a home

She Now
had a family

Always, Their Love
would ring
True.
