Why I Write

Shel Silverstein was where I got my start.
At the library his words touched my heart.
I never thought that I would then check out all his books.
I continued to read, across the years, books I would have passed by like a crook.
My start was given by Silverstein but my reasons for writing has disparate look.

Because I believe verse should be as free as all people.
Because not everyone believes in the astral.
Because the dualism I see all around me is not seen by blind eyes.
Because not all people can see when others cry.
What is this feeling building in my chest?
Why can’t we see that all are blessed?
How can I stop myself from being a charlatan?
When can I be sure that this lesson is not forgotten?

Till the day I can answer that question I will always ask myself, are people ever true?
There will of course still be coups, and that can make me blue.
But submitting to this sadness gets me only so far in my thinking.
So I will go on believing that verse should be as free as people, to me this thought will keep me linking the truth to all people.
