I write because I can.
Because I have trouble with words,
And I am afraid to speak.

I speak through art.
Through music, lyrics, and colors.
There is no other way.

It’s therapy for me.
My depression, I did not realize.
Not until I wrote.

It is a reflection.
A perfect mirror image of myself.
Of what I’ve gone through.
What I think.
What I see.
What I feel.

Poetry is raw.
Raw emotions,
Not skewed by a thing.
Not skewed by the ways of the world.

Instead, interpreted.
Interpreted,
by individuals.
personally.
perfectly.
beautifully.

I write because I can.
Because it is me.
Because it lets me feel.

I write because
I don’t want to inflict pain.
Not on me.
Not on others.
I don’t want to be myself.
But I am.
And That will never change.

So I didn't put this into the Why I Write slam. There were two poems, I wrote. I wrote this one first, but I feel like the other expresses the emotion of why I write more than this one. I write as therapy for my depression, because it's a healthy way to deal with it. Poetry is how I process my emotions from the day.
