Why I Write
Location
Words have power.
They can spark a movement,
fuel a revolution,
inspire an entire nation
to throw off the bonds of oppression.
Words can flatter.
They can simper and sigh
and bat their eyelashes
making friends and enemies along the way.
Words can soothe,
like aloe vera on a sunburn,
calming the irritation and healing the pain.
Words can paint a picture
better than Rembrandt or Renoir.
Transporting you
body and soul
to a jungle or an English tea,
the bottom of the sea or to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro.
But for me
words are me.
They fill me, surround me, are embedded in my cells.
And when I can't say them
I write them.
Hoping that someone understands.
