6 Pounds 13 oz, Body as small as the palm of her daddy’s hand.
Her Mother gasps for air there all the pain she just went experienced
to produce this little cute little gift.
Time goes on she learns her first words and walking
and opening doors.
Growing up who would have known that this little girl
would eventually hit reality and see life for herself.
Elementary seemed to be the best, they had recess and snack time
Middle school was a big challenge
There was no more walking in a line
Or putting your finger over your mouth to be silent
Trying to find herself, so lost
Deciding whether she should flow with the crowd
Or fall behind
Now she faces the big high school
Where there’s no more “holding your hand”
Late means late, and teachers have no problem with calling your parents
Does she follow the crowd? Or is she going to be different?
Because in her generation it was a blessing to finish high school
without getting pregnant
now she is hit with the big question
why do you want to go to college?
Does she lie or tell the truth?
Listen clearly because she has a lot to say to you
I stand in the middle class but finically I struggle, I’m pushing to
go to college so school is my hustle
I want to be that kid that changes lives with my voice and uplifting
my people that sadly don’t have a choice
Because unfortunately there are people whose parents won’t sign their
loan to help the achieve goals,
To fill in the holes that threatens this world
I want to be educated with a huge opinion
I want to be able to back up my statements while strongly debating
I want to go to college to increase my knowledge, and if I had the
power I would be in every major
I want all of the knowledge I can get to become a lady of intelligence
I want my vocabulary to grow larger and larger saying words like
Atavistic and Mendacious
Walking into a room changing everyone’s first impressions
I want to be that one kid in my neighborhood that can open doors for
so many of my peers that have fears
Fears of being black, fears of being white, fears of being judged
Because there educated in fields in which others lack
I want to change lives
Who would have known that this 6 Pound 19 ounce baby girl would be
faced with such a big world?
That little girl is me.
I’m going to keep up with my family’s legacy
You see, I’m a Kennedy and we fight through anything
And I refuse to let money hold me back and not take advantage of this
beautiful opportunity
I want to be an active voice for the youth and so many unknown problems
So when you ask me the big question
This simply is the answer to why I want to go to college.
