This Is Why the Caged Bird Sings.
Location
The memory of you,
like a warm summer breeze,
On my lips, on my hands,
on my neck, on my cheek.
Like a warm summer day
puts my mind at ease
you bring me light, fill my soul
make me weak.
Then you were gone.
And replaced by a bird.
In a cage, lovely bird
and she sang, lovely bird.
And she sang so sweet
so mournfully sweet
and the thoughts of you
crept back into me.
I sang with the bird,
and the bird sang with me
and we sang for the loss
of the feelings that we
gave way to someone else.
But that someone didn't see
that I was the bird and the bird was me
and he left me to be with the bird that is me
So this is why the caged bird sings.
So this is why my soul's not at ease
and my soul is the cage that allowed him to leave.
And left me he did.
And now that I'm free
I can tell them why the caged bird sings.
I can tell them why love clipped her wings
and forced her to dream of fabulous things
that she never did see
because never did he
love her as much as the love that she
gave way to him, and from her did he flee.
So this is why the caged bird sings.
And I am the bird and the bird is me
and this is the cage where I once broke free
Now I am the bird and the bird is me
And this is why the caged bird sings
I am the bird, now hear me sing.
And soon those sweet words will set me free.
