Who is she?

Quiet, apathetic, little eye contact;
She doesn't concern herself with what they think.
Intimidating, cold and uncaring
She doesn't like them or need their approval.
Who she appears to be isn’t who she is.
She won’t laugh or stare too long,
She doesn’t smile enough,
Her essence is cool, calm, and collective.
She hides behind the mask she created long ago,
She fears it’s too late now to change-
Into the person she wants to be.
Outgoing, friendly, and enthusiastic;
The person she longs to be.
Fun, exciting, and adventure-seeking,
Why does she always hold herself back
From the luxury of self-expression?
Who writes these rules on untold etiquette?
Don’t look interested,
Never ask too many questions-
Eager equals desperate.
Who is the person behind her mask?
She is sensitive and kind,
welcoming, funny and full of life-
She wants people to know all of this and more.
She is quiet but she cares deeply.
She cries privately,
She laughs loudly where no one can hear.
She has thoughts, hopes, and sentiments.
She might even be someone to relate to.
Why is it so hard to open herself up to others?
Isn’t being vulnerable the worst thing?
Or is being lonely even worse?
No- she doesn’t care or need anyone.
I’m only lying to myself.
