Who defines my values

Proverbs 21:1 New English Translation (NET Bible)

21 The king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord like channels of water;
he turns it wherever he wants.

Again and again ... investments of time, effort and thought

Who defines my values ... which are often brought to naught?

Who dictates my actions ... and who always leads the way?

Who is held accountable ... when direction sways?

Who pinpoints my reason ... and who lets me roam

in pastures of my longing ... not caring right from wrong?

Do I care about my destiny ... do I care where others go?

Am I a light that’s shining ... by the river where confusion flows?

Where is the beginning ... and where does its flow end?

Am I a light or flicker  ... carefully placed by the first bend?

Again that nagging question ... am I a light or boat

that floats just on the top ... wherever confusion flows?
