Who’s There?

There’s something lurking
Between the darkness of the trees.
A shadow haunts my every move.
I continue my day in terror
Of confronting the evil that might
Lie within.

A new day is spent in constant
Reminder of the darkness
That pursues me. If only
I knew what was calling me.
When I come home, something’s changed.
But what?

I walk around in fear of what’s inside,
Looking carefully for the intruder.
I see a shadow and so I call out.
But what I saw could not be explained
Because what I saw
Was me.
