where I belong

I can see a light on in the kitchen
But I dare not go in
I see a fire in the hearth
But I dare not sit
I hear voices in the attic
But i know they are not there
I hear footsteps in the hall
But I don't open the door
I hear my best friend laughing, though I know she is long gone
I see her smile everywhere
But I know not for long
Because we are not together
And I am where I belong

I heard my boyfriend crying
I ask him what is wrong
Though he doesn't answer me
I can see him trying hard.
He hears the voices with me
I am not alone
Maybe I'm not crazy
I'm right where I belong

If God were here with me
Like so many say he is
Why am I stuck in here
Where walls are white as snow
Do you hear those voices
They're calling me back home
Do you see those people
They tell me I'm where I belong
