When Will You See Them

Pieces of my heart are broken for those who hunger and thirst
Literally in body and absolutely in spirit
The children come, they laugh and play
Yet still hungry, some are sent away
Where is the love that draws them in and holds them tight
That comforts and dries their tears in the night
As their stomachs cry for food and their souls for God
For someone to see them and know them and care
Why not you and why not me
We live in comfort not in poverty
We have plenty to eat
Why don't we see them
They are real, they are here
In our city, school, and neighborhood
Around the world they suffer and silently cry
Why not you and why not I
Reach out and dry their tears
Hold them tight, see them through the night
We are hands and feet and hearts alive
Let us live and let us love
Let us feed and care for the least of us
