Around the time when the last leaves were falling and the snow had just started
Near to the place where we first came together and eventually parted
Did you whisper to me, to settle my mind
Reaching across the great chasm of time
Even now that I can't see your face, or hide in the safety of your warm embrace,
Will I hear the words you whispered to me, forever in that time encased.

Candid confessions expose all my fears
Hitting points on my heart that burn and that sear
Absolving your conscience while calling my name
Rebuilding my foundations from their ramshackled frame
Letting go of my worries proves a mountainous feat, yet
Every kiss reassures me as I feel your heart beat, and
Slowly, too slowly, you help me to heal.

Intently your eyes inspect my face, seeing more than I'd like to reveal,
Gently assessing my time and intentions
Nearing subjects that should never be mentioned
Always locking me, blocking me, from slipping away, from
Trying to run, to bring heartaches delay, yet
I see you more clearly through your delicate frame
Under your mask of bravado you will always remain
Sweet and uncertain, weak and still human.

Miles on miles consume us, yet will never bring on our doom and
Chilly thoughts swirl around you while my head is still pounding
Checking time, keeping pace, hearing victory sounding
After you realize I love you and know I'm not leaving, a
Feeling of euphoria settles around us and after achieving
Freedom together we can finally go out
Running past all my fears, with your kiss I don't doubt
Elated, belated, your arms wrap around me and start a new day
Yet the calendar turns and the world whisks you away
