When Shades Rise

Call it what you want;

The world isn't fair,

But when the shades arise

I know you'll be there.

My face was wet with rains;

My eyes darkened by clouds,

But when I heard my name,

Your love drew me out.

They scoffed;

I cried.

I trembled;

They laughed.

However filled by fear,

My protection was no wrath.

However far I stray

And however I may doubt.

I have no cause for my hope to fray;

You will always pull me out.

So when the shades arise,

And when I stumble in their snares,

I know deep in my heart

You are always there.
