Wild flowers on the dashboard

You said: you didn’t have money

so you ripped a bouquet right from the ground. 

A daisy in my hair

You said: that shop is much too expensive

so you plucked a petal from the arrangement

and stuffed it in between my sun-kissed hair and freckled ear.

I kept the flowers on the heated leather until their petals crumbled.

I placed the daisy on a plate until its stem curled like a worm.

 

99 cent carnations. I put them in my best vase. 

I open up my journal and squash them between the pages, just in case.
