Once upon a time
In a land that was right here
A place where soda was a dime
And the world was always clear

Maybe not clear from fight,
Racism, sexism, or other types of hate
But clear from the plight
Of collapse and the status quo,
the modern day fate.

A place where all felt patriotic
And other looked to with hope.
Now it's all just so chaotic.
Now we're on the downward slope.

You see we've been taught to accept
And accept, and accept, and accept
Taught that punishment is wrong
And that forgiveness is the only right
Well now it's been a little too long
With this idea. It's time to look into the light.

We make new laws every day
Yet more crimes are committed,
Because the punishment has been taken away
And glove of power has been refitted
To match the demons' right hands

But look outside of the crimes
Look right into out society
Look right now, look at the times
This sickening thing we call a reality

Where people are nude on TV,
While our children are on drugs
We don’t care, we want things fast, and free
And we fear even the imaginary thugs

Where full-time jobs include lawsuits and begging for some dough
Things like obesity, anorexia, and stupidity flow.
These things are not only accepted, but encouraged.
Now let me please ask, where is this place I speak of?

Well welcome to the wonderful world of Oz
Where nothing is as it seems
So clean your eyes from their gauze
Because your perfect world has been a 40 year dream

No, this isn’t really Oz
This is the post-modern United States
Where we complain for no cause
And there is never enough food on our plates

When will this madness end
When will the real America return?
When will we ascend
Back into our prime, back into our turn?

Of being a world leader, a group that others look up to
For guidance, for ideas, a group that they have hope through
The day will come when we are back once again
So I leave you with this one simple question: When?
