What You Don't See

What you don't see is

when I'm crying on the inside

when I'm saddened by life

when I'm lost or scared

when I don't know what's right.

What you don't know is when I'm lying

to your face

to protect you from my pain

to avoid you telling me I'm wrong

to change my ways.

What I feel

is happy when your happy

is sad when your sad

is loved by those who care

is courage despite my fears.

What you can't know is

I'm not your prize to be taken, lost, or mistaken

I'm a diamond in the ruft, and I'm special and tough

I'm a gem in your eyes, so it's best to treat me right

I'm not a helpless little girl that needs you by her side.

And this is what you don't see!
