What the People Didn't Say

Fri, 10/13/2017 - 09:05 -- Crem13

What they don’t tell you about being pretty is that boys will kiss you without your permission and lead you into their bedrooms when their parents aren’t home

What they don’t say is that lover’s friends will take you behind closed doors and grab your skin as if it is their own

Pictures will be taken and passed around like hearts on Valentine’s Day

Walking down the hallway might as well be walking into a strip club because you can feel everybody staring at your naked self

They’ll like your clothes not because of what they show but what they reveal

They don't’ tell you “boyfriends” are more like friends with benefits who leave marks

on different parts of your body every weekend to show off at school on Monday

There will be one cut for every mistake one cut for every lie and one cut for every heartbreak

Mothers will be proud but fathers disappointed

As your face grows prettier your heart grows weaker from the weight of it all

Over and over they will tell you how you are unforgettable but what you want more than anything is to be forgotten

You are expected to drink you are expected to smoke you are expected to be the girl that gets drunk and makes a fool out of herself at a party on Friday night because she is trying to fight her ex’s new girlfriend

You are the role model of what every girl wants to be……. In pieces

I feel as if this poem gives me the ability to express feelinga that I have held in for too long, and I think it is important to get it out there how I feel, as others have probably been in similar situations as I have.
