What Inspires Me?

What Inspires Me?

They never even heard us

Until they wanna blame us

We taken the shots

Hits to strong to even block

Black kids feel like they have to carry around a glock

Never even trying

When no one cares that they are dying

Thinking they are gang-bangers and drug addicts

Saying they are just going to be another convict

So they breathing in the smoke

Big brothers hand around so tight trying to choke

Some kids wish they never even spoke

Knowing they are just some statistics

Whites believe they are just some bombs ticking

Not knowing they are lighting the fuse, when they are tearing them from their parents arms kicking and screaming!

When they are throwing the bombs making the tears come out our eyes!

When they glamorize the uncivilized advertisement of our demise!

When they lock up children without a thought, with grown adults, knowing the result!

When they shoot a CHILD as young as 12, laying in bed shot him in the middle of the night just because he fit a profile!

Just because he fit a depiction of the white man’s description just to get a couple looks and daily subscription.

How can they just put us on some paper in some letters an ink, without even taking a second to think, without a second to blink, that maybe this is the broken link in this chain that is bringing America to its brink!

This is what inspires me

Why can’t they just let us relax and be

I write day and night

Knowing this is my only way to put up a fight

Hoping they will see our light shining so bright

They always claiming our music

But making where we stand pretty lucid

They always claiming our style

But wants to put us in orange jumpsuits walking in single file

They always taking our words and our slang

But make us listen to the sound of the judge’s  gavel rang

They always taking our culture

But don’t want to take our colour!

Their hero’s are our villain

Using their guns as penicillin like we are an infection that they are killin

Police cry gang at the sight of black men

We cry gang at the sight of policemen

We are the children of the founding fathers too

Even though it was racism that they spew, you would think that we would have had a breakthrough

This isn’t something new, but I’m hoping my words will cut through

Cause this is something everybody needs to attend to
