What I Can't Live Without

I can't live without pens.

Strange, considering a couple things.

Pencils are better for note taking.

Typing is more efficient for essays.

Paint flows cleaner onto canvas.

Talking quickly expresses opinion.

But pen.

Nothing is more permanent than ink.

Nothing flourishes smoother onto paper.

Nothing is more concrete,

Than the visual starkness that is black to white.

Pen to paper.

Thought to reality.

Reason to ration.

I can't live without pens.

Without them, all other media

Seem pointless and temporary.

I need the solidity and seriousness,

Tangible and complete.
