What happens to friends?

What happens to friends?

Why do they just leave?

Like a leaf in the wind

Is it something I did?

You called me fat.

You called me ugly.

You told me I’d never find love.

But what kind of love were you talking about?

I found love.

Not in significant other

Not in the opposite sex

But in a new friend.

She thinks I’m beautiful

She thinks I’m kind

So thanks to you

I found someone new

And she’s everything I wanted in a friend

And total opposite of you.

This poem is inspired by What happens to a Dream Deferred? by Langston Hughes in my AP Literature class when we had to write about one of our own dreams deffered. My dream was about having a perfect relationship, not with just boyfriend/girlfriend stuff but friendships.
