What Gets Me Through the Day

My angel gets me through the day
For his smile I’d plead
Just to see him walking by me
Is all I could ever need

When I feel that life is hopeless
When I think the future’s dim,
All I need to help me
Is a simple phone call from him,

But lately his line is busy--
His voicemail box is full
And lately my life seems to be
Despondent and dull

So my friends have taken interest
And filled the empty space
In my heart where he used to live
And made-over the whole place

There’s no more filled up voicemails,
Their lines are always there
If I need someone to talk to
They tell me I can share

When I want to go out for the night
I never have to wait
There are plenty better people
Who are willing to be my date

With my friends always beside me,
Life could never slow me down
Or stop me like it could’ve
When my angel was around.
