Depression is not knowing how to get up from bed on a beautiful day. It's looking out the window and going "Hey, the sun is really pretty today" but not knowing what to do with that information. It's being too tired to get food, it's being so tired you're physically unable to get hungry at all. It's when you've slept over twelve hours, but still being tired. It's thinking about ways to kill yourself but remembering you don't have the strength to even do that. It's not being able to call anyone to help in any way because you feel like a burden, because it's hard to even find the phone. It's laying on your bed the whole day watching silly cartoons, unable to move. It's not eating or drinking water for days on end. It's wanting to go out with friends, but somehow saying 'no' whenever they invite you. It's knowing that you're being picked up in half an hour, and not caring. It's not going to class for the third time this week and somehow not caring about it at all. It's being unable to take your meds because you've forgotten them in the kitchen. It's your family stopping at your room and asking if you need anything, and that while you know you need food, and water, and a shower, and a will to live, a simple 'nothing' comes out of your mouth. Depression is when you're invited to beach, and you've been wanting to go for days, but now you're not sure if you want to go because of the fun time, or because the waves provide an easy escape. It's being terrified from what anyone might say when they realize you're depressed. It's crying for hours on end because you're not sure what to do with these feelings. It's believing you're causing this on yourself.
Depression is a disease.
