We All Dream

By: Tyree Jackson

"Hold fast to dreams,
for if dreams die,
life is a broken winged bird
that cannot fly." -Langston Hughes

We’ve dreamed so much
that the stars left the sky.
So forgive us Lord if the
heavens aren’t shinning
so bright.

But we need faith along
with your protection,
because the society we’re
living in is such an infection.

Not only on me,
but on the youth’s lives I see.
From carrying guns, selling
drugs, and doing time.
Lord
the youth here are trapped,
falling behind, and need direction,
can you hear their cries?
not only from them, but from
their parents too? Already burying
their kids before they reach you.

Please Lord, I wanna leave this
place, but no matter how hard I
try, I can’t seem to win this race.

But one day, I know I’ll find, that
exit sign reflecting in my eyes.

And when I leave, I don’t plan
to be alone. I am taking everyone
with me to our new home.

To a place where the streets are
clean and with new stars in the
sky because we all dream.

I read that quote the other day. I don't remember where, but I remember it. It is a great precursor to the poem and I completely agree with the message that you're putting across.
