A Way Out

All quiet, peaceful, still-
All going as it should until
The fire alarm goes off; she's not sure how
The only thing that should matter is getting out now.

Smoke filling the room-
Suffocating, smothering, sealing her doom.
Stubbornly she fights to keep hold
Of the things she treasures like gold.

She knows full well she needs to let go;
Move on; tears falling as her emotions show.
Holding so tight to the possesisons she loves
Icy white from gripping so hard covering her hands like gloves.

Her one escape beckoning, pleading-
'Just trust me' her window is imploring.

Finally, the hardest thing she's ever had to do-
She releases her desperate hold and her heart beaks in two

Launching herself through the window she feels crushed-
The things she held closest now gone like dust

Escaping as her tears keep falling
She realizes the fire was her way out of idolizing
