Waves of Knowledge

The rippling waves

lapping on the shore

always reaching out,

always wanting more.

The taunting ocean,

with its bright eyes

beckons waves closer,

telling them to try.

And so the waves go,

drawn into the sea

drinking in promises

of what they will be.

The waves are now met

with storms and the pain;

the pain of the knowledge

of what some can't gain.

And with their new knowledge,

the waves stand tall.

Their minds now are filled

with the pain of their fall.

When back at the shore

that started it all,

the waves long for the time

back when they were small.

Because of their growth

through knowledge and pain,

the waves have the power

to destroy and to stain.

But with their new power

the waves now can bring

warnings of the knowledge

that lies in the sea.

A poem I wrote when life smacked me in the face with knowledge I wasn't ready for, and I have a feeling I am not the only person to ever experience it.
