Water and Mirrors

Why does water reflect?
Why do mirrors?
Do we see ourselves in them?
Does it show our dreams, hopes, expectations?
Does it show our nightmares, fears, and doubts?
Or does it simply give us reality?
Is our image affected bu societal expectations?
The water and mirror may show the truth

But the mind can choose to hide it
To corrupt it with all that is inside of us
Clouding it with false lies
Reflections forever change our opinion of ourselves
Each and every time it is seen
The beauty of the skin is placed over what is most important

The beauty of the heart
It can be a shining, brilliant beauty
Or moldy and covered in dust
It can be dulled to a luster shade by life’s experiences
And yes, it can be black and rotten

But the brightest, purest beauty of all
Is the heart of a newborn child
Our own hearts are hidden from us
When we gaze upon our reflection
Spellbound to what we see

We cannot lose the beauty of the heart
It is hard to find once it is lost
But it is there, waiting to be found
And to be brought back to the light
For everyone to see its beauty
