Wanting to Become Someone Other Than Myself

Look in the mirror,

hate what I see

Look in the mirror,

what else could I be?

a scholar, a singer

a dancer, bell-ringer

a celebrity, a teacher

a model, a preacher

a soldier, a fighter

a mother, a lover

a tailor, a sailor

a baller, beatboxer

a defender, protector

a leader, a follower

an architect, designer

an initiator, protestor

a dealer, a healer

a failure, a savior

Time-out, hold up.

Give me a second to breathe.

What was so wrong

with being just me?
