Want

I want the boy

with our baby

cradled to his chest

I want the girl

wearing leggings

and my sweatshirt

I want someone

who will share food with me

and let me barrow their fork

I want the boy

who will let me play with his hair

and fall asleep on my shoulder

on the couch

I want the girl

who will sit between my legs

like I’m an armchair

and rest her head against my neck

I want someone

who doesn’t always need to fill silences

or know what to say

or need me to know what to say

I want the boy

with a bright smile

and brighter eyes

I want the girl

with strong hands

and a stronger personality

I want someone

who knows how to wear pajamas all day

and be too emotionally invested in TV shows

but still not cry
