Waiting

To see the future in a second

And past moments in a day

As time wanders by its lonely way

And we can only watch and stare

And take our fumbling steps with care

And push others out ahead of us

Not yet beckoned.

And time continues slowly on

Winding through the windy trees

And snowy Winter’s icy freeze

As we walk and look with dread

At the path that awaits us ahead

And we wait for the day when we will be

Gone.
