Vive La France

Location

Jeanne d’Arc has wings now

Her Napoleon a halo

They sit together

Comfortable in silence

Watching rivers that look like

Their Thames.

Both know the madness of sound

The ways of battle, leadership

And both know most of being

Misunderstood.

She wears loose pants now,

And flowy white blouses

He is still fond of the flair

Of his old uniforms.

But now he holds her hand

And she lets him lead.

Neither are fond of fires,

Nor being cooped up

So they share a spacious cabin

In the woods far from the beach

There they wander nature,

Or play board games, like

Risk.

She wonders what marriage is like

He says it is overrated

Neither can agree on the matter.

But, on nice nights,

When the stars shine clear,

They sit together and talk about

Nothing.

With all of their differences,

They echo in perfect harmony

One thought:

“I only tried to do what was best.

Vive la France.”
