I put my life on the line for my country
I did all that I was told
My best friends went with me, but they never came back
The jungle was thick, I never stopped sweating
I was so very lonely, out there in the bush
but I thought about home, and what I was protecting
I thought about my dad, who fought in his war
Now it was my time, to fight in mine
At first I was scared, unable to shoot
By the first week I had already had my first kill
I was a valuable asset for my country
A killing machine I was known as
But I was not a machine, I was just a man
A man, just like my dad at home
A man, just like my mom as well
I came back a man too
but things were different
I thought I was a hero
A tribute to all of the fallen in the bush
Instead they spit on me, called me names
Told me to go back to where I came from
Yet these same people don't know, can't know
what I experienced out there, the loss I suffered
I will never one of them, but always a soldier
I risked my life for these people, and this is the thanks I get
Sometimes I wish I was back there in the bush
At least back there, I knew we were the good guys, and they were the bad guys
Back home, nothing makes sense anymore
