Untaintedly Happy

What happened to hugs

The feeling of being loved

The warmth of a mother

The protection of a brother

What happened to smiles

The bright memories of a child

Playing tag in the rain

Wishing for more than change

What happened to dreams

When everything was as it seemed

When there were no traps,

                        trips,

                        and tricks

Up people’s sleeves

When unicorns and faeries

And princes and princesses

Were real

All because we believed

When thoughts of manipulation

Of two-sided faces

Of selfish intentions

Weren’t on our minds

When nightmares and fears

And worries and tears

And burdens and burns

Weren’t all that we had

But, we’re bothered with the task

Of making our lives last

Without making meaning

Of what our lives are bringing

But one day I wish

That to live was to be

That instead of enemies

We’re making memories

Of laughter

Of joy

Of happiness

Of anything and everything

Instead of the plaguing pain

Plaguing worries

And pain

And burdens that aren’t even yours

One day I wish

That to live was to be

Untaintedly Happy
