Unrequited Love

She's loved him from afar all her days,

He's loved her the same,

And while they grow ever closer,

They cannot help but feel yearning pain.

They wonder if the other

Will ever get close enough

To ever start a fire

That will forever burn as such.

She wants him

To look her in the eye

And tell her what those looks meant

On the fourth of July.

He wants her

To tell him what she meant

When she texted him

About that brand-new hat on his head.

They long to tell the other

What beauty lies in their eyes,

But cannot manage it quite yet,

Not when they fear being denied.
