Unrequited
This beating heart aches with each breath I take,
The pain is unbearable to my soul.
I am drowning in this fiery lake,
And this person I am is far from whole.
Each day, I steal many a glance at you,
The pounding of my chest beats out of time,
No one can make me feel the way you do,
Nor can they earn my small, disgruntled sigh.
But any admiration from afar,
Is just a burden for my heart to bear.
Each loveless word deeply wounds with a scar,
And breaks my lonely heart beyond repair.
I long for a love that we all have sought,
But the future says "it's all for naught."
