The University Generation
Location
We are the generation of intelligence.
We learn to exercise our minds and not our hands.
We are the university generation.
Goodbye to toughened hands, calluses,
Heavy lifting and a general good will towards construction.
Adieu, to shitting in porta-potties
(That’s for festivals, maybe fairs, if only once or twice.)
Farewell to early mornings
So long to classes eight to three,
Try noon, then four, but only for an hour.
Hello to alcohol! Hello to drugs!
Hello to late night pitas; downtown thugs!
Bonjour to living on our own,
A diet strictly for the weakening heart,
(which, mostly comprised of faster foods,
And the occasional (frequent) butter tart.)
We are the university generation!
Don’t you know?
Turning high school cliques to hordes
And fashion run amok.
We are the generation of freedom.
We aren’t tied down to relatives back home;
we live with friends, and family they become.
Apart from parents, we scarce go home,
But every other week or so,
to do our laundry.
