UNITING FAMILIES

Dear elders of Africa,
Tell me your secret, I plea,
In uniting your families,
Throughout history.

Was it your pride in culture,
Or the bond of blood and kin,
That kept your families together,
Through thick and thin?

Did you gather for storytelling,
Under the shade of the baobab tree,
Sharing your roots and traditions,
With the youngest amongst thee?

Or was it your faith in the divine,
And the values it instilled,
That bound your families together,
With love that was undistilled?

Did you keep your traditions alive,
Through the passing of the years,
And pass them down to your children,
To ensure that they were near?

Tell me, O elders of Africa,
So I may learn from thee,
The secrets of your unity,
And make them a part of me.

For in this world of confusion,
Of strife and endless wars,
We need the wisdom of your ancestors,
To unite us like never before.

So bless us with your knowledge,
And light the path for us to see,
The way to true unity,
As you did for your families.
