Unexpected Wings

Caterpillar, caterpillar, weak and small

It’s hard to understand the world when your walls are so tall

Asking questions and wondering when you will grow

Wanting more than anything for your wings to show

Caterpillar, caterpillar, one day you’ll see

The wings you end up with aren’t what you expect them to be

Your vision now, the plans you’ve made

Doctor, traveler, missionary by trade

Will soon crumble and give way

But the world you’ll find up there some day

Will take you to new heights you never would’ve known

Slowly but surely, you’ll come into your own

So, rest up little caterpillar, your day is coming soon

Your wings await in a C-172.
