The Ugliness of Slumber

I never understood,

The appeal of a sleeping face,

They sleep all kinds of ways,

With their mouths half open,

Drooling like dogs in the summer,

Or even snoring,

Sounds like pigs in conversation,

Clothes mussed,

From rolling around in loose sheets,

Hair tangled,

From uncontrolled movements,

Unflattering positions,

Awkward expressions,

Tell me what is to romanticize,

About a woman at her most careless,

A man at his most open,

I may have contradicted myself,

As it seems,

Nothing is quite so beautiful,

As the ugliness found in slumber.
