Two Ways

Thu, 01/30/2014 - 20:53 -- Nemo

A young boy

            strays along through town.

A distant look on his face.

Only half hearing the crowd –

            others walking the sreets,

            answering each other

            or sending messages and tweets.

Trapped in his own mind,

thinking of the whys and hows

     and to all else, blind.

                        Never truly living.

A vibrant girl

            enticed by the city lights,

shining like stars

seized every moment tight

as if it were her last.

            A smile plastered on

            never regretting her past.

How she loved to move,

            to experience new things

     with nothing to prove.

                        Endlessly existing.

As the two crossed paths,

            arms brushing,

     eyes locked in wonder

            something stirred deep within.

But he was lost.

His soul had long been dull.

Oh, how she wanted to,

            wanted to desperately save him.

He was gone.

A sad smile she left for him,

            hoping he’d realize one day.

Maybe even meet once again.

For,

to exist is not to live,

but to live is to exist.
