Trenches
They are like trenches
Where I can hide
I can put up my fences
And feel safe inside
In each one I took shelter
From the bullets that rained
While my real wounds sweltered
I found a different pain
They were like trenches
A world in their own
Distracting my senses
While I was alone
Just like the trenches
They had their disease
The cure was kept in a locked bench
And truth had the keys
When I look at them now all I see are graves
Many minutes, hours, days, dead
I see the marks but no names
Just buried lead
