Treading

I have yet to understand how a heart

can be as heavy yet light

such as mine.

Plenty of thing weigh me down.

Such as a death of a friend, my dirty lungs,

and a lack of a mother's love.

These things pull me down into a sea of misery.

I can barley keep my head above water.

But with them come life boats

lead by loved ones and my own determination

to swim to them and bring me back to shore.

Where I plant my feet and kiss the ground

because it's where I belong.
