Running, jogging

Trying to win the race

Thousands of people moving

At a simple steady pace

No one could have guessed

Of what was to come

It was an annual tradition

Called the Boston Marathon

People were close

Yet so far away

The finish line in sight

On that bright and sunny day

A half a block from victory

Is when the pressure cookers blew

It soon turned to chaos

At shrapnel metal flew

About twelve seconds later

Is all the time it took

A second bomb exploded

And our country was surely shook

Many people were injured

There was screaming all around

But lots of runners kept running

Toward the hospital standing in town

They donated their blood

After a truly exhausting day

To help save the wounded

In Boston’s Back Bay

We Americans stayed strong

Just as we always do

There’s really no other choice

When someone messes with you

I will never understand

Why people do what they do

Why kill so many innocents?

What’s in it for you?

It was a tragic event

That only made us stronger

It’ll surely go down in history

But your killing we’ll take no longer

Here in America

We stand hand in hand

Lifting each other up

On this grand and free land

We’ll fight for our country

That’s what we’ll do

Here in the Promise Land

We bleed Red, White and Blue
