Chained as if i were am animal
beat til my name had to be misplaced from my memory to take up the name the white man decided to give me
I call'em massa cus his emotion made him lash out at me
Ery morning was grate ,jus to see the sun peek over the white fields
gave me hope
the hard work got easy after the first 10 years
Massa went to the market one morning and bought back a beauty
Ha was fair skin girl from down the way at ole Massa Harpers fields
Massa was grining the way he does when he thinks he got a great sale on his hands
Ha name be mae , she massa house servant
Mae had the face of the white man but the color of my people, struck me as odd
but thinking to much made massa angry so i stopped..
Singing in the fields was a ery day thing til massa's annoyance got the best of'em and he yelled "Stop Nigger"
The days went on and word spread bout that underground railround ,massa soon revoke my field lonliness to be overseen
The depths in my back soon grew bigger
my eye water no longer shed
life was life and all it could be

Man writing this story was only flashbacks
terrible times for me
but now a free man Tragedy has mistaken me
The scares that scorn my back are not scars at all
Massas evryday beating made freedom a short haul
massa soon passed and overwhelmed i became because life outside the fields were life of a free man
