My mother is a bird,
Her voice is music, her eyes are bright,
She dips and moves and flutters
The sun touches her wings and she is beautiful.
My mother is a bird,
Silver in color, light as the wind,
She can soar high amongst the clouds,
And dive deep toward the earth.
My mother is a bird,
Her wings move too quickly
So that she does not see herself
For prolonged periods of time.
My brother is a bear,
His eyes are honey, his voice a growl,
He lumbers and stomps and crawls
The wind rustles his fur and he is beautiful.
My brother is a bear,
Dark in color, heavy as the earth,
He can run amongst the trees,
And climb to the tops of mountains.
My brother is a bear,
His eyes avert themselves
So that he does not see himself
For prolonged periods of time.
My aunts are deer,
Their skin is warm, their touch gentle,
They jump and twist and startle
The rivers run solely for them, and they are beautiful.
My aunts are deer,
Amber in color, nimble as fallen leaves,
They can paint the earth with their colors,
And inspire hope in all.
My aunts are deer,
They jump from their reflection
So that they do not see themselves
For prolonged periods of time.
I am a fox,
My eyes are bright, my mind sharp,
I twist, and jump, and run
The trees grow for me, and I am beautiful.
I am a fox,
Rich in color, fast as the wind can blow,
I can weave words with my teeth,
And knit thoughts with my claws.
I am a fox,
I stare at myself each day
So that I can see my own beauty
For my family who cannot see theirs.
