Too Young to Listen

Location

In elementary, it was nothing but.
“My dear, my dear,
this goes here not there.”
But I couldn’t even comprehend why a man would want
to be stuck in such a position.

Yet the personal topic
was brought out
by strangers.
“Sweetie, here’s a rubber and a pill,
to stop the swelling
of unwanted children.”

Such a young mind
that I had,
I thought it quite rude!
An unwanted child?
Unheard of!

And there I was, baffled
not even able to understand the consequences
that my own parents ought to have mouthed
instead of faculty.

In High School, it was everything high
“Child, don’t inhale this,
don’t prick this in the vein.”
However, I hadn’t even considered
the thought!

Yet as it was brought before me,
I found out about the world of enhancers
At a age I should’ve been discovering
A newfound self.

I was once again invaded,
my parents’ responsibilities robbed,
as meaningful words
fell from superficial lips.
