Too Much Brain to Waste
Locations
I am a student
I live in the hood but my mind lives in the books
Instead of sharing ways to break the rock apart
I rather share these words that seem to flow like word fart
Brooklyn
New Carrollton
All places that want to hold me back
Destroy my future ahead of me
Place a ring on my finger
Marry me and try to keep me trapped
I sit in classrooms on hot, sunny days
Because I'd rather burn from heat of a working brain
Than to die from streets that hit me with sun rays
I am a student
Whose parent can't afford much but put me on a pedestal
To tell me that one day I will be great
She'd say
Keep reading those books, you'll make it to the finish line one way
These words are my gods
For I am the maker of my capabilities
Although my pockets sit on empty
And my home await eviction
Instead of waiting for the world to change
And protesting to my unknown conviction
I am making a name for myself
Not enriched with wealth or big houses and cars
Simply putting my hopes and dreams in the air
Making a place for them next to the stars.

This is beautifully written! I love the story it tells, and it's unique. Great job!
I love the sense of motivation you convey throughout the whole poem and how you explain that you won't let your environment hold you back. Never give up.

I love tis... I also live in brooklyn. I understand :)
Don't worry. Books are the answer
Were the answer
Will always be the answer.
Nothing can hold you back.
They don't want you to be smarter than they are
But they don't think enough to know that you already are.
To try to learn tells more than anything.
Know everything you can.
Knowledge is power.
And books are beautiful.

I like it! Remember: "Nothing is impossible. The very word itself says I'm possible" -Audrey Hepburn You can do it.
Always be grateful that your parents never held you back. They have taught you to rise up and fly. It could be much worse and is for some people.
