Too Much

Words keep spilling from TV advertisements,
Televisions without vision, like beer stains
On the carpet from an empty solo cup.
Words that say "Buy this product,
And your life will be better."
Words that say "Vote for this person,
And your life will be better."

Words keep firing from people's open mouths
With bullets of lust and rumor and scandal,
And the echo aftermath of shotgun resonates
With silver-tongued, double-edged lies.

It's too much. Too much talk,
Not enough action, not enough progress.
Hold your breath, listen for the echo,
And please, for the sake of those
Who are waiting for their turn, just shut up.
