Tongueless

I wonder what you would find

If you opened up your mouth

And cut out your tongue.

Would there be words there,

Hidden in the seeping blood,

Sentences never completed,

Statements left unsaid?

Tell me, dear,

Would you care if you never had a tongue again

If you could never force it to speak

What was in your mind

Or in your heart

In the first place?
